Abstract
1506721 Membrane filtration LE CARBONE - LORRAINE 27 Feb 1975 [1 March 1974] 8284/75 Headings B1L, B1M and B1X [Also in Division F4] A one-piece rectangular or cylindrical module comprises two independent systems of parallel fluid channels wherein the channels 1 of one system are interconnected by ducts 2 and alternate through the module with the channels 3 of the other system which are interconnected by ducts 4, the ducts 2 and 4 being disposed in a rectangular pattern as shown in Fig. 2. The channels may at most be a few tenths of a m/m in thickness and the channels of one system may be up to four times thicker than those of the other system. The channels of each system may be connected at their ends to inlet and outlet headers which may be formed with the module Materials suggested for the module are nickel, copper, aluminium, titanium, P.T.F.E. or graphite. For filtering including reverse osmosis and ultrafiltering, using the module material as a filter, one set of channels constituting the inlet is connected to a header above the module and the other set of channels is connected to an outlet header below the module (e.g. as in Fig. 5). When recirculation of the treated fluid is required to keep the filtering surface clean, refer to Fig. 6 (not shown). Briefly mentioned but not described in detail are that the module may be used for distillation or condensation and also for absorption and desorption of a fluid or vapour in or from a liquid. The module may also be used for heat exchange between two fluids.
