Abstract

1506183 Hydrocracking catalysts W R GRACE & CO 23 April 1975 [24 April 1974] 16853/75 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] Hydrocarbon feeds are hydrocracked using a catalyst formed by (a) exchanging a Y-type zeolite with ammonium ions to lower the alkali metal content to less than 3% wt. (as oxide); (b) exchanging the zeolite with rare earth ions; (c) calcining to deammoniate the zeolite; (d) further exchanging the zeolite with ammonium ions to lower the alkali metal oxide content to less than 1% wt.; (e) further exchanging the zeolite with rare earth ions to give a rare earth content of 0À5-5 wt. per cent (as oxide); (f) compositing the zeolite with a support material, e.g. silica-alumina, and a hydrogenation component, e.g. a metal or oxide of Groups 5B, 6B, 7B or 8; and (g) calcining. The hydrocarbon feed may be a middle distillate (300-700‹ F.) for conversion to gasoline and may contain sulphur and/or nitrogen contaminants. Specified hydrocracking conditions are 550-800‹ F., a pressure up to 500 p.s.i.g. and a LHSV of 0À5-5 with a free hydrogen content of 1À5-12 s.c.f./barrel. The example describes hydrocracking of a light catalytic cycle oil spiked with thiophene and N-butylamine.
