Abstract

1505822 Feeding sheets LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 7 May 1975 [13 Feb 1974] 6520/74 Heading B8R Pile holders.-A removable magazine 18, Figs. 2 and 4, comprises an inverted U-shaped body 19, to the inside of each limb of which is secured a guide 20 having a plurality of horizontal grooves, whereby rigid sheets 22, e.g. of glass, can be piled in spaced relationship, while abutments 21 overlap the ends of the grooves at one end. In use, the bottom sheet rests on laterally spaced flat surfaces 25, while the limbs of the magazine extend downwardly into grooves 53 in a body 23. Separating sheets.-The bottom sheet is separated by a reciprocating blade 29 having portions 29a which pass between the abutments 21 and the surfaces 25 and into a pair of grooves and engage the rear edge of the bottom sheet to move it on to a surface 31 of a sputtering apparatus (see Division C7). On the return stroke of the blade, chamfered portions 32 allow the next sheet first to tilt, together with the magazine, and then gently drop on to the surfaces 25. Forwarding sheets.-Each sheet on the surface 31 is advanced at right-angles to its previous direction of movement by a similar pusher device.
