Abstract

1504476 Discharge printing of cellulose BAYER AG 5 Aug 1976 [7 Aug 1975] 32670/76 Heading D1B [Also in Division C2] White and coloured discharges are produced on cellulose fibre material by a process in which the material is padded with a liquor containing a dischargeable direct dye and a compound of formula in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 independently represent a C 1 to C 4 alkyl group or a C 2 to C 4 alkyl group which is substituted by a hydroxyl group, or R 1 and R 2 are joined together with the nitrogen atom to form a ring, R 4 is hydrogen or a methyl group, X<SP>n(-)</SP> is an anion and n is 1, 2 or 3, dried and a white or coloured discharge is applied and fixed. Fixation is preferably effected using saturated steam at 100‹ to 115‹C, the compound as above preferably being present in amounts of 20 to 6/gms/litre and direct dye in quantities of 5 to 30gms/ litre. Coloured discharges are obtained using non-dischargeable direct dyes, or vat dyes. When dyeing blends of cellulose with polyester the padding liquor may additionally contain a dischargeable or non-dischargeable disperse dye.
