Abstract

1502872 Stopper with self-closing valve N B NILSON 2 April 1975 [8 April 1974 20 Nov 1974] 13402/75 Heading B8T [Also in Division F2] In a valve for a squeezable tube a valve member 2 has a central opening 15 normally closed by the end 9 of a post 8 and includes a conical diaphragm-like portion 12 which deforms outwardly when the tube is squeezed but means are included to delay the passage of fluid from within the tube until the conical part is deformed into a substantially planar condition. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 this means takes the form of a further valve closure between an annular flange 7, integral with the posts 8, and a cylindrical portion 13 of the valve member 1. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 the post 8 is mounted on pre-stressed flexible ribs 5<SP>1</SP> so that the post end 9 remains in the opening 15 until the conical part has deformed into a planar condition. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), a safety valve has a deformable diaphragm with a central opening sealed by a post and the post has a limited freedom of axial movement so that the valve remains closed until the diaphragm is substantially planar.
