Abstract
1502179 Alkaline dry cell seal A SUNG-ON NG 25 Oct 1976 [2 Dec 1975] 49505/75 Heading H1B An alkaline dry cell comprises a metallic open-topped container 1 constituting one of the two cell terminals and containing an electrolyte, a metallic cap 2 positioned in the open top of the container constituting the second terminal, and a resilient sealing and insulating material 3 mounted in compression between the cap and the upper rim of the container, the cap being made of a resilient metal, e.g. stainless steel, and formed with a downwardly dependent integrally formed skirt fitting into the opening of the container and engaging the sealing member. The rim of the skirt is formed radially outward from the centre of the cap and upwardly to provide an open channel to contain a substantially incompressible stiffening ring 4, preferably metallic (e.g. stainless steel). The stiffening ring may be solid (e.g. circular cross-section), or stamped from sheet metal to form an annular channel of J- or U-shaped cross-section (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). A second substantially incompressible ring 5 may be provided fitting inside the cap against the inside of the flanged rim.
