Abstract
1501914 Forming partitioned packages E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 17 June 1975 [18 June 1974] 25749/75 Heading B8C A process for forming a series of packages comprises drawing a web of material 1 into a member 3 which forms the web into a tube 5 and feeding a second web of material 6 within the tube 5 at the same rate of advancement as that of the tube 5. This second web may be formed as a tube 10, e.g. by a member 8 (Fig. 1) or may be a strip 23 (Fig. 9) which spans the tube 5 thus providing separate compartments for two different materials which are introduced through filling tubes 4, 9 with discharge ends at 4a, 9a. Alternatively, the tube 10 can be pre-formed and can also be pre-filled prior to passing into tube 5. Pairs of encircling closures 15 are applied at intervals to the partitioned tube which is then severed to produce individual packages. The longitudinal seal 20 is made by, for example, an air heater 11 and a similar device 12 is used to seal the tube 10. The tubes are advanced by pairs of rollers 13, 14, a motor 26 being controlled by signals from devices 16, 17 so that the tube 10 moves at the same rate as the tube 5. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 5, 6, not shown) one set of rollers is arranged to engage the inner tube through the walls of the outer tube so that both are advanced together. The webs may be of plastics or a plastics laminate.
