Abstract
1501535 Conveyer for temporarily storing cigarettes in transit A SCHMERMUND 6 May 1976 18596/76 Heading B8A Cigarettes in transit between a making machine (not shown) and a packing machine (not shown) are temporarily stored on a belt conveyer 4 so as to accommodate fluctuations in performance of either machine. A conveyer 37 from the making machine, feeds the cigarettes on to the conveyer belt 4 which can be swung between the full- and broken-line positions. The belt 4 is two side-by-side sections separated by a frame member 6 on which pulleys 2 and 12 and a tensioning pulley 7, are mounted. Side walls 13 on either side of the conveyer 4, extend above its uppermost position to form a channel, above which is disposed a conveyer belt 28. The latter has a tensioning mechanism 29-31, and a sensor 33, 34, to respond to overfilling of the channel, by the cigarettes. The conveyer 4 feeds to a hopper 45. This has a sensor 48a which responds to a drop in level of cigarettes. Another sensor 23 co-operates with contacts 20 and 25. Projections 5 on the belt 4, ensure that cigarettes at the bottom of the store are readily removed. A curved boundary wall 14 of the store, is formed with recesses 15, 15, to receive the projections 5. Projections 53 (Figs. 4 and 5) are carried by extensions of the member 6. The projections 5 and 53, and the recesses 15 are provided to ensure that cigarettes are not jammed between the belt 4 and the sides of the store.
