Abstract

1501487 Banjo body G H STELLING 17 Nov 1975 [18 Nov 1974] 47335/75 Heading G5J A banjo body comprises a generally cylindrical body shell 14, and a tone ring 12, the shell having a bevelled surface 14a arranged to mate with a similarly bevelled surface 12b, 12d on the tone ring. The arrangement allows a banjo body to be formed without requiring extensive and accurate machining. As shown the tone ring 12 has a generally L-shaped section with bevels 12b, 12d which mate with bevel 14a on the shell which may have lips 14b, 14f. The bevels may subtend an angle of 45 degrees to the horizontal. A bevelled shell flange 16 may also be provided to fit on a bevel 14d on the body shell. The whole structure is held together by conventional threaded brackets (not shown) which when tightened produce a snug fit due to the wedging action of the bevels. A conventional skin head is retained over the tone ring by a tension hoop. The inner surface of the shell has an outwardly sloping surface 14e to reflect sound upwardly.
