Abstract

1501094 Electromagnetically operated door lock BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD 2 April 1975 [29 March 1974] 14061/74 Heading E2A An electromagnetically operated door lock has a bolt 5 movable in a guide 6 and a solenoid 1 having a plunger 3 with an extension 4 in engagement with the bolt 5. In an embodiment the solenoid 1 is mounted on a door 21 and, when supplied with electricity through wires 2, raises the bolt 5 into a staple 8 mounted on a door frame 22. The presence of the bolt 5 in the staple 8 is detected by a switch 9. The latter may be used to control actuation of a latch for latching the bolt 5 in its locking position. A switch 10, operable by a magnet 11, controls the energisation of the solenoid I so that the latter is not operated until the door is closed. A stop 12 is provided for the plunger 3 which, along with the bolt 5, falls by gravity when the electricity is cut-off. In another embodiment the solenoid 1 is mounted on the door frame 22, Fig. 2, and a staple 8, having a hole 13 therein for receiving the bolt 5 is mounted on the door 21. The guide 6 is provided with a slot 14 for receiving the staple 8 therein. The bolt 5, Figs. 1 and 2, can be made from a material other than that of the plunger and may, along with the guides 6, be made from tool steel so as to resist the sawing through thereof.
