Abstract
1500992 Detecting incipient breakdown conditions RANSBURG CORP 14 Jan 1975 [14 Jan 1974 (2)] 1629/75 Heading H2K In an electrostatic coating apparatus, movement of an earthed object 12 towards the h.v. electrode 11, which might lead to sparking, is detected by sensing low-frequency components only (e.g. 0-10 Hz) of the current flowing between the h.v. source and earth. The object 12 may be an article to be coated. In one embodiment the signal from a shunt 13 is supplied to both a first channel 71, which blocks D.C. but passes A.C., and a second channel 72 which passes both D.C. and A.C., phase-shifting the latter to match the phase shift in the first channel. The outputs from the two channels are subtracted (73) to give a signal proportional to the low-frequency components only, and this is supplied to a threshold circuit 75. Another embodiment is described but is identical to that of Specification 1,500,991.
