Abstract

1500989 Sectional hot water boilers; finned heat exchange surfaces IDEAL-STANDARD Ltd 28 Feb 1975 [8 March 1974] 8592/75 Headings F4A and F4S A sectional hot water boiler is formed from a number of hollow vertical heat exchange elements A, A<SP>1</SP> which define a combustion chamber space 3 (for a gas-fired burner) and gas passages above that space between the outer faces of portions 2 of adjacent elements; said faces having sinuous parallel generally vertically extending ribs 6, 66 and, spaced along the ribs, further projections 7, 77 extending outwardly from the ribs themselves. The ribs 6, 66 have an amplitude substantially equal to their separation and, when viewed in a direction towards one face (Fig. 2) the ribs on that face are of opposite phase to those on the other face (shown dotted). When two elements are set together (Fig. 5) sinuous gas passages are defined adjacent each face by respective ribs 6, 66 while the projections 7, 77 extend into a central region of the space between the faces and create turbulent cross-motion due to their being orientated in different directions on ribs of opposite phase.
