Abstract
1500912 Fire barrier DUFAYLITE DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 6 May 1975 [13 Feb 1974] 6661/74 Heading A5A A fire barrier device comprises a grid 3 of structural cellular material in which the walls of the cells are coated with an intumescent material, and a surrounding metal frame 2 for mounting the grid, the frame defining an inwardly directed channel which surrounds the periphery of the grid and overlaps the peripheral regions of the faces of the grid, so that the grid may be held in position without attachment to the frame and may be free to move relative to the frame under fire conditions. As shown in Fig. 8, the frame may comprise two separate parts 81, 82 each having a flange 87, 88 which overlaps the corresponding face of the grid, the grid separating the edges 83, 84 of the parts when they are in position. The frames in all embodiments may be lined with intumescent material, e.g. as at 96 in Fig. 8. Reinforcing meshes 5 may be provided on the faces of the grid, and these are held in position by either wire loops 6 extending through the grid (Fig. 4) or by soldering to the frame as shown at 95 in Fig. 8. Specification No. 1500913 is referred to and discloses similar barrier devices in which a frame surrounds the grid and a pair of reinforcing members of metallic mesh positioned in contact with the face of the grid so that the grid is sandwiched therebetween.
