Abstract
1500604 Baffles; burner fired fluid heaters LUMMUS CO 15 May 1975 [22 May 1974 21 Aug 1974] 20751/75 Heading F4B In a fluid heater, particularly a process heater for reforming or pyrolysis of hydrocarbons, of the type having rows of fluid carrying tubes 7A within a radiation chamber 1 and a convection chamber 12 above and offset from the radiation chamber, ducts 8 are arranged parallel to the tube rows at the top of the radiation chamber to receive gases from the radiating heaters, e.g. burners and direct them into the convection section, so as to ensure adequate heating of the top part of the tubes farthest from the convection chamber. The ducts 8 are made of metal of circular, polygonal or triangular section, and are spaced apart to allow the gases to enter the duets, which increase in diameter towards the convection section Fig. 7. The duct sections may have a decreasing number of inlet apertures toward the convection section (Fig. 8) and are connected to the radiation chamber roof by bolts 20, Fig. 10, having springs 22 to take up thermal expansion.
