Abstract

1499745 Disazo and trisazo compounds and their metal derivatives SANDOZ Ltd 8 April 1975 [10 April 1974 14 Nov 1974 25 Nov 1974(2)] 14259/75 Heading C4P Novel azo compounds of the formula and their metal derivatives, wherein R 1 is H or NO 2 ; each of R 2 and R 3 is OH or NH 2 ; R 4 is H, NO 2 or C 1-4 alkyl; R 5 is H, NO 2 or C 1-4 alkoxy; R 6 is H, C 1-4 alkyl or alkoxy, CO 2 H or SO 3 M; R 7 is H or SO 3 M; M is H or a cation; and R 8 is H or a diazo component radical (including -N=N-) are prepared by coupling diazo derivatives of appropriate 4-amino-diphenylamines and, where required, other diazo derivatives to provide R 8 in any order with compounds of the formula or their metallized derivatives. Products may be converted into 1:1 or 1:2 metal complexes including mixed complexes with other metallizable azo dyes by standard procedures. The metal complexes are useful for dyeing paper and leather.
