1499701 Educational appliances LEYBOLDHERAEUS - VERWALTUNG GmbH 3 March 1976 [8 March 1975] 08586/76 Heading G5G An apparatus for demonstrating the characteristics of an electrical rotating machine comprises an electric motor 1, a speedometer 4 outputting an electrical signal, a generator 6 outputting an electrical reference signal, a comparator 5 outputting a signal dependent on the difference between the reference and speed signals, an amplifier 7 and current controller 8, a brake dependent on the difference signal supplied via the amplifier and controller, and indicators 10 and 11 for displaying the speed of the motor and the braking force (torque) respectively. The speedometer may be of an electromagnetic (e.g. Hall effect, field plate) or electrooptical (e.g. photoelectric resistance) type or may be a tachometer generator. The brake is preferably mounted on the same shaft as the motor and comprises an eddy current brake. Other instruments, e.g. ammeter, cos # meter may be additionally provided.
