Abstract
1499673 Heat exchange circuits MARSTON EXCELSIOR Ltd 30 July 1975 [28 June 1974] 28775/74 Headings F4U and F4A A liquid make-up tank for use simultaneously with two heat exchange circuits comprises first, second and third zones 36, 37, 38, the first and second zones being in direct communication via a gap under a baffle 52 and the second and third zones being in direct communication via a gap under a baffle 53. The first and third zones each have supply and return lines from each respective heat exchange circuit. In use of the tank, the heat exchange circuits may operate at two distinct temperatures, the zone 37 acting as a buffer separating the two said circuits. The tank also includes a liquid supply line 55 and an overflow 56. The heat exchange circuits are used for cooling a diesel engine 1 which is fed with turbocharged air from a turbo-charger 2 which has a charge cooler 3. The engine 1 also includes an oil cooler 4. The first heat exchange circuit is used for cooling the engine 1 and comprises a water pump 7, engine inlet lines 8, 9, hot water outlet line 10, supply lines 12, 13, 14 to aircooled radiators 5, 6, and return lines 19, 20, 21 back to the pump 7. A by-pass line 11 is included in the first heat exchange circuit. The second heat exchange circuit includes a pump 23 which passes water through the cooler 3 and oil cooler 4, and via supply line 26 to series-connected radiators 27, 28. Zone 36 of the tank 35 is connected to air bleed lines 39-43 and to a return line 45. Zone 38 is connected to air bleed lines 46-49 and to return line 50.
