Abstract

1499571 Working stone NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 9 July 1976 [3 Sept 1975] 36309/75 Heading B5E A device for breaking up planar constructions of concrete, masonry or like constructional materials 16 comprises a body portion 12 for location against a free edge 14 of the construction, a first member 18 having a gripping portion 20 for engaging a first major face 22 of the construction, a second member 24 having a gripping portion 26 for engaging a second major face 27 of the construction more remote from the body portion than the gripping portion 20, and an expansion means 28 operable to engage the second major face 27 at a position nearer the body portion than the gripping portion 20. The body portion 12 and members 18, 24 together form a generally G-shaped construction which can be supported by a sling 30 from a crane so that the portion 20 engages the lower face, and the portion 26 the upper face, of the construction 16. When the means 28, such as an hydraulic ram, is expanded, the portions 20, 26 first grip the construction, further expansion breaking off part of the construction. In another embodiment, both of the gripping portions 20, 26 may be connected to the members 18, 24 by a ram or rams so as to be retractable during placing of the device on the construction. In a further embodiment, the body portion 12 is displaced from the plane containing the gripping portions 20, 26 and expansion means 28.
