Abstract

1498955 Machinery safety devices GLOVER WEBB & LIVERSIDGE Ltd 2 April 1975 [2 April 1974] 14641/74 Heading F2J [Also in Division B8] In a refuse vehicle housing a packing device transferring refuse from a hopper to a main body a guard is provided to obstruct access to the hopper opening when the packing device is moving adjacent thereto. A guard barrier frame pivoted to the hopper opening is movable from the inoperative position to a guarding position by a cam lever follower 26 acting through an elbow member 30. A cam 20 is secured to the actuating crank 48 of the packing device by members 22, 24 so that the cam 20 engages the follower 26 to force it down to raise the guard during that part of the cycle when the packing device is passing the hopper opening to shield a user from contact with the packing device. If the packing device is reversed the two parts of the followers 26 pivot at 34 as allowed by stops 36, 38 so that the guard 14 is not moved. When the packer plate does not move in a continuous cycle movement of the barrier to its operative position may iniate a cycle.
