Levels.-The bubble of a liquid level can be increased as desired by transferring air from a reservoir to the tube through a small hole by tapping the tube or using a forcing-piston, while it can be diminished by inverting the instrument and allowing some of the air to escape to the reservoir. The liquid in the tube 1 communicates with the liquid in the reservoir 4, and the air space above the liquid communicates with the pump barrel 5 by a hole 7. The screw-operated piston 8 forces air through the capillary hole 6 in the form of small bubbles, to the level tube 1. This may also be done by tapping.
