Abstract
1497841 Statistical mixtures of halogenated bis - phenols with halogen - free bisphenols BAYER AG 6 May 1976 [7 May 1975] 18624/76 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The invention relates to statistical mixture of halogen-free bisphenols of Formula II with mono-, di-, tri and tetra-brominated bisphenols of Formula I and/or with mono-, di-, tri- and tetrachlorinated bisphenols of Formula I wherein X denotes C 1-9 alkylene, C 2-9 alkylidene, C 5-15 cycloalkylene, C 5-15 cycloalkylidene, a single bond, -O-, -S-, -SO-, -SO 2 -, -CO- or and R 1 to R 4 are identical or different and denote H, Br or Cl, wherein the total halogen content of the mixtures is 3 to 48% by wt. and they contain 0-48% by weight of bromine alone, 0-30% by wt. of chlorine alone and bromine and chlorine conjointly in any desired ratios by weight. These mixtures may be obtained by bringing the bisphenols of Formula II in solid form, into contact with gaseous chlorine and/or bromine gas and optionally an inert gas, at temperatures between -20‹ and 80‹ C., in amounts of 0À1-3 mols of halogen per mol of bisphenol per hour, the resulting statistical mixture of bisphenols being withdrawn from further reaction after the desired halogen content has been reached.
