Abstract
1497706 Toothed gearing RELIANT DESIGN DEVELOPMENT CO Ltd 19 July 1976 [22 April 1975] 16656/75 Heading F2Q Back-lash between a bevel gear 9 on a driving shaft 2 and a bevel gear 10 on a driven shaft 5 is eliminated by a recirculating power circuit to one element of which a torque is applied to provide a pre-load. A shaft 16 is driven from shaft 5 by bevel gears 15, 20 and carries an axially slidable helical gear 21 which meshes a helical gear 22 on driving shaft 2. The helical gear 21 is urged axially by a plurality of disc springs 23 which are acted on by an adjustable screw-threaded member 28. Alternatively, preloading could be achieved by braking one of the gears, without the use of helical gears.
