Abstract

1497446 Pneumatic separation KRAUSSMAFFEI AG 16 Oct 1975 [18 Oct 1974] 42529/75 Heading B2H Communal and industrial refuse is sorted by magnetically removing ferromagnetic components at 3, coarsely shredding the remaining components at 4, and applying an -air current in a classifier 6 to separate out heavier and lighter fractions. A light fraction A of sheet paper, foils, and light textiles passes through a sieve 7 to produce paper for recycling. A medium fraction B of cartons, heavy plastics parts and paper bundles is loosened by a bristle roller 8 having radially projecting stepped bristles and passes to a zig-zag classifier 9 and cyclone separator 10 which separate out a light fraction A'. Carton fractions A" are finally separated from a remaining heavy fraction C by a sieve 11, and the remainder is burnt or disposed of. The refuse may be subject to loosening between individual processing steps, and the initial refuse containers or bags may be coarsely shredded before the magnetic separation. The air current classifier 6 may employ a horizontal air stream followed by a vertical air stream which separates from the middle fraction B lighter components A' suitable for paper recycling. The lighter components rise in the air stream and may be centrifugally separated at 10, whereas the heavier components fall downwardly and may be subject to sieving for removing fibrous components.
