Abstract

1497412 Jacks PYNFORD Ltd 9 April 1975 [18 Feb 1974] 7247/74 Heading B8J A screw jacking unit comprises two steel plates 5, 6 with a number of nuts 7 welded to the plate 6 and bolts 8 screwed into the nuts 7 with their heads arranged to engage the plate 5. When unscrewed from the nuts 7 the bolts 8 exert a jacking action on the plate 5. In a method inserting a beam in the wall of a building, wherein the wall is cut away and hollow stools are inserted at horizontally spaced positions, at least some of the stools are pinned up by inserting above or below each selected stool a jacking unit as above, extending the jacking unit by unscrewing the bolts, inserting reinforcing rods through the stools and casting an in situ beam incorporating the stools and reinforcement.
