Abstract

1497363 Stabilising sands REVERTEX (SOUTH AFRICA) (PTY) Ltd 12 March 1976 [21 March 1975] 10034/76 Heading E1F A method of stabilizing sand comprises applying to the sand an aqueous polymer emulsion in an amount from 5 to 25 litres/m<SP>2</SP>, the ratio of dry polymer to sand being less than 3:100. The polymer emulsion may be stabilised with a colloid stabiliser, e.g. gums, celluloses, or polyvinyl alcohol, and the polymer may be a polyvinylacetate homopolymer, a vinyl acetate-acrylic copolymer or an acrylic-acrylic copolymer. The sand particles may be rendered water repellant by a pre-treatment with a composition comprising a polymer in an amount to provide 0.01-0.5 parts of polymer to 100 parts of sand.
