Abstract

1497080 Gravity platforms PANAMA OVERSEAS SHIPPING CORP INC 24 June 1975 [22 July 1974] 26652/75 Heading E1H An offshore platform of the gravity type comprises a superstructure (not shown), a plurality of metal support legs and a concrete foundation which has a plurality of passages 9 in which lining tubes 10 receive the lower ends of vertical metal columns 26 of each leg. Each end of a column 26 is located within the tube 10 by wedges 21, the abutment of conical parts 17, 18 of the tube 10 and end 8 respectively and grouting fast into an annular space beneath a seal 23 via openings 32 and at least one duct 22. To construct the platform, the concrete foundation is first built and for building each leg, metal lining tubes 10 are arranged in their respective passages 9, the lower ends 8 of the support columns 26 of a leg are located therein, structural members 24, 25 are joined between the columns 26 to form a lower leg section, the lower leg section is removed from the foundation and completed. After all the legs have been so built, the foundation is transferred and sunk onto an underwater bed and the columns 26 of each leg finally fused in their respective passage 9.
