Abstract

1496404 Drying oven B & K MACHINERY INTERNATIONAL Ltd 6 June 1975 [25 March 1975] 24510/75 Heading F4G An oven 10 for drying or curing coated workpieces, e.g. metal strip 5, the coating including vaporizable solvents which are burnt to provide heat, comprises at least two zones 10A, 10B, each having a gas inlet 32, 40 and outlet 22, 24, means for passing the strip sequentially through the zones, and means (not shown) for circulating the gases through the zones. Fresh air is delivered at 34, 32, and the outlet 22 from the zone 10A leads to a plenum chamber 36 from which a duct 38 leads to branch duct 40 which goes to a recirculating chamber 16 of the zone 10B, which contains an incinerator 56 for the solvents. The outlet 24 is connected to the inlet 32, and the outlet 22 to a by-pass duct 92 leading from the plenum 36 to a radiant heating unit 82, see Fig. 4 (not shown) in zone 10A via incinerator 94. In the illustrated embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), two further zones (10C, 10D) are described, and a second oven (12) comprising zones (12A... 12E) sharing the heating and ventilating system with the oven 10. This system includes pressure- and temperature-controlled valves, as e.g. 98, in the ducts. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown) the duct 46 from the plenum 36, instead of going to a stack 50 via incinerator 48, is connected to a further radiant heater (204) in the zone 10A.
