Abstract

1496275 Welding torches; removing or welding metal by fusion ESAB Ltd 12 March 1975 [13 March 1974] 10273/75 Headings B3R and B3V [Also in Division F4] A welding or cutting torch comprises a straight tip portion 20 which may be a non- consumable electrode or a contact nozzle for a consumable electrode and means for extracting fumes &c. produced by the welding or cutting operation, the said means comprising a first tubular member 2, which in the illustrated arrangement also serves as the shielding gas nozzle, a second tubular member 6 which at its front end surrounds and is radially spaced from the rear end of member 2 so as to define an annular channel therewith and a third tubular member 11 slidable on the front end of member 6 to provide an adjustable forward extension of the annular channel. Member 6 is connected to a suction conduit 9 leading to a fan unit 17; the conduit and parts 6 and 11 are removable from handle 4 and neck 3 by releasing clamp 8. The member 11 may be constricted at 19 and co-operate with a tapered throttle member 15 on nozzle 2 to provide an adjustable restriction in the flow. Member 11 is held in its adjusted position by a stud 12 on member 6 extending through slot 13 in member 11 frictionally engaging the member 11 by means of felt rings 14.
