Abstract

1494052 Preparing polycarbonate powder IDEMITSU KOSAN CO Ltd 6 Oct 1975 [5 Oct 1974] 40858/75 Heading C3R [Also in Division B1] A process for the continuous production of polycarbonate powder comprises heating polycarbonate solution in a receptacle 1 and simultaneously repeatedly subjecting the solution to to-and-fro agitation provided by rotation of one or more shafts 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, provided in the receptacle and having blades 5a, 5b each set at an angle to the axis of rotation of the shaft, one set of blades to direct solution in a first direction and a second set to a direct solution in an opposite direction. Volatile matter may escape from exit 8 and solution may be fed in at inlet 9. The polycarbonate used in the example is derived from bisphenol A. Specified solvents are tetrachloroethane, trichloroethane, dichloroethane, trichloroethylene, dichloroethylene, chloroform, methylene chloride, dioxan, tetrahydrofuran, chlorobenzene, toluene, ortho-, meta-, or parachlorobenzene and mixtures thereof.
