Abstract

1492778 Furnace linings CARBORUNDUM CO 17 Dec 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 54521/74 Heading F4B A lining for the interior surface 16 of a furnace comprises metallic hangers 10 secured to the furnace, backing panels 20 of refractory insulating material parallel with the surface 16, and panels 22 of flexible fibrous refractory material impaled over portions 12 of the hangers 10, the portions 12 being parallel with the surface 16. The lining may be employed for insulating a sidewall (as shown) and also the furnace top wall or ceiling. In one modification, two layers of backing panels 20 are used one over the other to give a thicker backing. In a further modification, the backing panels 20 are omitted and the flexible panels 22 extend into contact with the surface 16, Fig. 3 (not shown). The hangers 10 may be of steel or brass rod or strip, e.g. stainless steel rod. The backing panels 20 may be rigid and be of mangesia or mineral wool. The fibrous material of panels 22 may be of alumina-silica fibres.
