Abstract

1492618 Ziegler polymerization catalyst for olefins MITSUI PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 27 Jan 1975 [1 Feb 1974 10 Aug 1974] 3459/75 Heading C3P Alphaolefins are polymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising (A) a trialkyl aluminium or alkyl alkoxyaluminium compound or a complex thereof with a carboxylic ester, and (B) a solid titanium component which is a complex obtained by contacting, in any order, (i) a magnesium dihalide; (ii) a silicon compound which is a tetrahydrocarbylsilane, a halo and/or hydrocarbyl di- or polysilane, or a linear or cyclic siloxane which may be substituted by hydrocarbyl groups or in which the linear polysiloxanes are terminated by halo radicals; (iii) an organic carboxylic ester, and (iv) a tetravalent titanium halide, alkoxide or haloalkoxide. The various compounds (i) to (iv) may be pulverized together. Typical examples refer to the solution polymerization of propylene, in the presence of (A) Et 3 , Al or Bu 3 Al, and (B) (i) MgCl 2 (ii) methyl polysiloxane, hexamethyldisiloxane, 1,3-dichlorotetramethyldisiloxane, dimethyl diallyl silane, methyl pentachlorodisilane or octa phenylcyclotetrasiloxane; (iii) ethyl benzoate or ethyl chloroacetate and (iv) T : Cl 4 .
