Abstract

1492614 Mixing flowing streams BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd 21 Feb 1975 [22 Feb 1974] 8297/74 Heading B1C Apparatus for dividing and combining flowing streams is embodied as a discharge head for a coal grinding mill to which coal is supplied downwardly through a duct 8 and discharged upwardly entrained in an air stream. The apparatus comprises a plurality of coaxial cylinders 12, 16, 18, 20 spaced by radial bars 22 so that the areas of the annuli are substantially equal. Each annulus has a pair of quarter - turn helical strips 24, 26, 28, 30 starting from a first common diameter 33 and finishing at a second common diameter 35, the strips 24, 28 and 26, 30 being of opposite hand; the device is made in two halves joined at the first common diameter 33 and the downwardly tapering portions between the radial walls 36 which lie thereon are filled with concrete so that the inlet sectors will subtend twice the angle of the outlet sectors. These discharge with two offtakes 32, 34 each having a semi-annular inlet and a circular outlet. In modifications there may be a single offtake, or four offtakes each extending over a quarter of each annulus or there may be three helical strips in each annulus, each subtending 120‹.
