Abstract
1492456 Offshore platforms; boring earth; wells TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 18 April 1975 [16 May 1974] 16017/75 Headings E1F and E1H A floatable structure 10 for drilling or producing fluids from submerged wells, e.g. a semi-submersible or a tension leg platform, in which a rotatable drill string 24 is lowered, comprises an elongated open ended caisson 36 to shield the string from contact with the waves and apertures 38 to permit restricted passage of water there-through. The caisson includes a divergent lower end, to avoid damage to the drill string when the structure is displaced. The caisson is braced at 39 and 40 to the structure hull. The drill string can be tensioned. Rubber buoyancy tanks (41), Figs. 3, 4 not shown, can be secured to the string 24.
