Abstract

1491606 Aliphatic #-ketoesters AGFAGEVAERT AG 22 May 1975 [10 July 1974] 22168/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] Aliphatic #-ketoesters are prepared by condensing a dialkylketone with a dialkylcarbonate in the presence of sodium hydride in a basic, aprotic, dipolar solvent at 20‹ to 100‹ C. The solvent may be pyridine or an acid amide, e.g. tetramethyl urea, dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, N - methylformanilide or acetanilide, N - methylphenylmethane or diethyldiphenylurea. Examples describe the preparation of pivaloylacetic acid ethyl ester which may be reacted with a substituted aniline, e.g. 2 - chlor - 5 - [2,4<SP>1</SP> - di - t - amylphenoxybutylamido]aniline suitable as a photographic colour coupler.
