Abstract
1491495 Pouring tubes USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 28 Oct 1974 [26 Oct 1973] 46515/74 Heading F4B A refractory pouring tube suspended from a holder by means of a clip has a metal band secured to and encircling it in the region of the clip, said band having opposed slots engaged by the clip. As shown applied to a refractory sliding gate on a vessel used with a continuous casting mould, the tube 10 is suspended from a holder incorporating a refractory block 14 and a metal frame 15 with a dependent skirt 16 and has a metal band 19 attached to it by a crimp 21 engaging a groove in the tube with opposed slots in the band receiving the legs 17 of a U-shaped clip. The latter passes through holes in the flange (Fig. 2) and if the slots are deep enough to enter the refractory of the tube, they may be replaced by a groove extending round said tube. The tube has a solid end 13 and diametrically opposed pouring openings 12. In a modification (Figs. 3 and 4) it has an open pouring end and the band has an end flange (25) engaging a slot (21a) in the tube. The band is then encircled by a metal tie (26).
