Abstract

1491491 Feeding and collating sheets J A LONG 28 July 1975 [29 July 1974] 33420/74 Heading B8R A plurality of sheet feeders arranged along and above a primary platform 106, Figs. 5 and 8, each include a magazine comprising a fixed and an adjustable side wall, a sloping rear plate 86 to fan out the bottom part of a pile 130 of sheets, a front wall 64 having a lower curved forked portion accommodating a feed roller 44, and a belt 50 forming a throat with the roller 44, whereby sheets are separated and fed between belts 32, 33 on to a secondary platform 90, against brushes 100. Tines 118 controlled by a cam bar 129 and carried on chains 112a push the sheets off the platforms 90 on to the platform 106 to form collated stacks 150, and deliver them on to a conveyer 160. A photo-electric detector 94, 96 stops the feeder when a sheet is sensed and starts it when it is moved away. Alternatively, a photo-electric detector 39, 40 carries the sheets and stops the feeder when a predetermined number are on the platform 90, starting the chains 112a to remove the stack. The detector 94, 96 stops the chains 112a if no sheet is fed on to the platform 90 after a predetermined delay.
