Abstract

1490998 Nitro naphthyridine derivatives BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 23 Sept 1975 [2 Aug 1974] 34140/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein one of the groups W, X, Y or Z represents nitrogen and the remaining groups W, X, Y and Z represent CH groups. These compounds may be obtained by the nitration of a compound of formula wherein W, X, Y and Z are as defined above. The following intermediates are prepared: (a) 2,4 - Dihydroxy - 1,8 - naphthyridine by reacting ethyl - 2 - amino nicotinate with ethyl acetate in the presence of NaH in mineral oil. (b) 2,4-Dihydroxy-1,7-naphthyridine by reacting 3 - amino - 4 - carboethoxy pyridine with ethyl acetate in the presence of NaH in mineral oil. (c) 2,4-Dihydroxy-1,6-naphthyridine by reacting 4-amino-3-carboethoxy pyridine with ethyl acetate in the presence of NaH in mineral oil. Pharmaceutical composition useful in inhibiting the effects of certain types of antigenantibody reactions comprise as an active ingredient a compound of Formula I in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
