1489931 Detecting wanes on timber PLESSEY CO Ltd 15 Jan 1975 [18 Jan 1974] 02473/74 Heading G1A In an apparatus for detecting wanes on a moving piece of timber, the timber is illuminated from one side, and an adjacent side 13 is viewed by a lens 11 and photo diode array 10 combination. If a wane is present, a light-dark transition Fig. 2 (not shown) will occur that is detectable by the photo diode array 10 which are connected to a threshold detector 12. The timber section is moving into the plane of the paper for Fig. 4
