Abstract

1489288 Polyester/aminoplast coating compositions CIBA-GEIGY AG 20 April 1976 [15 May 1975] 20553/75 Heading C3R Curable coating compositions comprise (where parts are by wt. based on resin-forming solids): 100 parts polyester (P), 5-75 parts aminoplast (A); and organic solvent(s) (S) for (P) and (A); where polyester (P) has #2 mercaptan groups per molecule directly attached to aliphatic C atoms, and #1 acyl residue containing a C# 8 aliphatic group; and aminoplast (A) urea contains, attached to amino N atom(s) or or of a polyamino - 1,3,5 - triazine, either #2 -CH 2 OR groups or #1 -CH 2 OR and #1 -CH 2 OH, where R is C 1-4 alkyl. In the examples, (P) is made from a mixture of: phthalic anhydride; coconut, soya, or castor oil fatty acid; glycerol; pantaerythritol; thiomalic and/or thioglycollic acid or 2-mercapto ethanol; and xylene. Rutile may be added to the composition, which may be used to coat tin-plated steel sheets, followed by heat-curing.
