Abstract

1489127 Cord winder in a vacuum cleaner ELECTROLUX Ltd 12 Aug 1975 [31 Oct 1974] 33540/75 Heading A4F [Also in Division B8] An electrical apparatus comprises a cord winder assembly which comprises a reel 10 for storing cables 11, a clockwork type coil spring 23 mounted in a casing 22 for urging the reel 10 to rewind unwound cables, the casing 22 being connected to the reel 10 by lugs 26 engaging apertures 28 on the reel 10, and a member 32 having a sleeve 33 mounted on a stub shaft 34 by means of spaced threads 35 or grooves of the sleeve 33 engaging complementary grooves 36 or threads in the stub shaft 34 and a shaft 39 which includes a shaft portion 40, the outer end and its adjacent portion of the spring 23 being connected to the periphery of the casing 22 as at (30, 31) Fig. 2 (not shown) and the inner end being connected to the member 32 by means of a hook 38 engaging a hole in the spring 23 whereby by turning the shaft 40 clockwise the member 32 and the reel 10 are disengaged from the stub shaft 34 to allow further turning in order to increase the tension on the spring 23, and by turning in the opposite direction, upon replacement, the threads 35 are caused to re-engage the grooves 36 to lock the member 32 to the apparatus. The apparatus is a vacuum cleaner. The stub shaft 34 carries a hood 37 fixed in the vacuum cleaner. Electrical conductors 13, 14 of the cord or cable 11 are connected to resilient copper strips 16 17 by screws 15 and the tips 18, 19 of the strips 16, 17 are at different distances from the axis of rotation of the reel 10 so that during rotation of the reel 10 they will abut a respective one of two circular contacts, not shown, and slide over the contacts whereby electrical energy is transmitted to the vacuum cleaner.
