Abstract

1488983 Axial air-flow fans; silencers J EBERSPACHER 24 Oct 1975 [24 Oct 1974] 43888/75 Headings F1B and F1C [Also in Division F4] A ventilator comprises an outer casing formed by two parts 1, 2 or, as shown, by three parts 1, 2, 3 which are spaced apart, parts 1, 2 having a fresh air intake opening 6 and a fresh air discharge opening respectively, the openings being protected by slats, and a fan 12 removably mounted in part 1, wherein transmission of noise from part 1 to part 2 through the casing walls is reduced by the spacing of the parts 1, 2, 3. One of the gaps 4 between the parts 1, 2, 3 may accommodate a window pane around an opening therein and the other gap 4 may be closed by a resilient sealing gasket 5. Alternatively both gaps 4 may be closed by gaskets 5. Each part 1, 2, 3, or the part 3 alone, may be lined with sound damping material e.g. glass wool (11), Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), held in place by a perforated sheet metal plate or plates (10). The air in its passage from the fan 12 traverses an elbow bend. The parts 1, 2 may be identical. The discharge opening in part 2 may be arranged to direct air downwards within a room, and may include adjustable slats (14). Part 1 may include an electric heating element controlled by a thermostat and a time switch, and means for filtering and sterilizing the air.
