Abstract

1488414 Variegated polyester fibres, filaments or yarns ROHM & HAAS CO 24 Feb 1975 [14 March 1974] 7676/75 Headings D1B and D1L Variegated polyester fibres, filaments or yarns are prepared by non-uniformly applying to a spool of undrawn or partially drawn polyester, typically having a denier of 200-600, a liq. or soln. which alters the affinity of the polyester for dyestuff, the polyester then being dyed, optionally following drawing and false twisting. The liq. or soln. is applied non-uniformly using an apertured mask, see Figs. 3-6, placed over one or both ends of the spool. The liq. or soln. may be applied using a dropper, squeeze bottle or spray gun, 1.5-3cc being applied to each aperture for a 11-12 in. diameter spool. The liq. or soln. is preferably 1, 1, 1- trichloroethane but may also include other polyhalogenated alkanes of 2-4 C atoms; a phenol or napthol substituted with alkyl, halo, phenyl or trihalomethyl; an alkanamide substituted with H or alkyl; a benzoic acid ester substituted with alkyl or halo; or a salicylate.
