Abstract

1487030 Expansion bolt H I WERNERSON 10 Nov 1975 [12 Nov 1974] 46371/75 Heading F2H An expansion bolt 10 has an expansible sleeve 15, which is slotted in the longitudinal direction, fits around a reduced diameter portion 13 of the bolt, and is provided with openings 22, the arrangement being such that after the sleeve has been expanded and locked in a hole by drawing conical nut 19 into the sleeve, further rotation of the bolt causes deformation of bridges 23 between the openings so as to cause the sleeve to axially contract without substantial increase in the diameter of the sleeve in the region of the openings. Both nut and sleeve may be provided with mutually cooperating longitudinal ribs 20 to prevent relative rotation between nut and sleeve when the bolt is tightened. In order to prevent the nut and sleeve from rotating in the hole, the edges of the sleeve adjacent a longitudinal slot 18, see Fig. 3, may be bent outwardly to form lips 21 which engage the wall of the hole when the bolt is tightened. Alternatively, outwardly directed tongues may be formed at a rear edge, as viewed in the direction of rotation, adjacent to slot 18.
