Abstract
1486284 Suction cleaners HOOVER Ltd 16 Sept 1974 [17 Sept 1973] 40256/74 Heading A4F [Also in Division F2] A suction cleaner 10 e.g. of the canister-type having a motor-fan unit 20-26 is provided with a valve 70 in a passage 58 through which air is discharged from the motor-fan unit, the valve comprising two relatively movable, preferably relatively rotatable, members 72, 83 each having a projecting wall 72, 74 which is undulating when viewed in plan, Fig. 5, the relatively movable members having a first relative position in which the walls 72, 74 align and abut one another so that air is diverted to a blower connection 114, and a second relative position in which the walls 72, 74 are not aligned and so allow air to be discharged to atmosphere through opening 34. As shown, the wall 72 is formed integrally with a housing member 12, and the member 83 is annular and is centered for rotation by an annular rib and groove 84, 86. Movement of a manually-operable lever 106 moves the member 83 against the bias of a spring 100 from the second position to the first position where it may be kept by engagement of a hose 126 with a hose coupler 110 aligned with blower connection 114. The member 83 has ledges 122, 124 which limit its rotation by engaging stops 116, 118. In the second position the blower connection 114 is closed by a flat part 115 of the valve-member 83. The motor-fan unit 20-26 may be mounted on resilient rings 62, 64 as claimed in Specification No. 1486014.
