Abstract
1485128 Gas filter element D A G MARSHALL 17 Dec 1974 [17 Dec 1973] 58313/73 Heading BIT [Also in Division B5] In a bonded two-stage fluid filter of very high efficiency a filter material 10 comprises a ply of glass fibre paper 12 bonded to a ply of cellulose fibre paper 14, the edges of the plies being embedded in synthetic plastics material. The plies may be impregnated with resin and bonded together by heat-curing the resin in them while they are in contact. The filtering material 10 may be in pleated form and provided in the form of a hollow cylindrical body having a fine-mesh outer metal screen 16 and inner screen 18 of expanded metal with comparatively large openings. The upper and lower edges of the screens and plies may be embedded in annular plastics end pieces 20 and 22, e.g. of polyurethane. The filter may be used to filter air in vacuum cleaners, aircompressors and flexible containers and in the removal of welding fumes.
