Abstract
1484921 Power assisted steering systems TOYODA-KOKI KK 17 Sept 1974 [31 Oct 1973] 40482/74 Heading B7H A power steering apparatus includes relatively rotatable valve members for controlling fluid flow to pressure chambers 31, 32 and means for preventing vibration of one of the valve members. In one embodiment a valve sleeve 12 is integral with worm 22 and is connected to a steering shaft 19 by a double torsion bar 24. Flap valve members 17, 20 are respectively fixed to the bar 24 and steering shaft and are respectively mounted in chambers 14 and 16 which connect supply and return parts 13, 15. On relative rotation of the sleeve and valve members fluid is selectively directed to annular groove 35 or 36 in the sleeve to supply chamber 31 and 32. The valve sleeve has bores carrying pistons 41, 42 which are urged to abut flanges 40 on valve member 20 by fluid from chamber 14 supplied to their rear ends via restricted bores (45) (Fig. 3, not shown) in the pistons thus preventing vibration of the member 20. The antivibration pistons may be spring loaded (Fig. 4, not shown).
