Abstract

1484402 Asbestos dispersions TBA INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS Ltd 18 Feb 1976 [8 March 1975] 9751/75 Heading C1A [Also in Division D1] A homogenized dispersion of asbestos fibres, from which a yarn or fibrous strand may be formed, is in an aqueous medium composed of water, soap and up to 100% (preferably not less than 25%) molar excess of free fatty, e.g. oleic, myristic, stearic or lauric, acid, such excess being calculated on the amount of fatty acid combined in the soap. The latter may be the reaction product of a fatty acid with a metal, e.g. sodium or potassium, hydroxide base, or with ammonia or derivative thereof, e.g. hydroxylamine, hydrazene and most saturated amines and quaternary ammonium hydroxides. In preparing a mixture of constituent materials the temperature thereof is maintained above the gel paint of the final dispersion.
