Abstract

1484388 Hydrostatic transmission control ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 9 Jan 1975 [12 Jan 1974] 961/75 Heading F2W [Also in Division B7] In a vehicle a hydrostatic transmission having a variable pump 14 and a motor 17 drives one axle and a mechanical transmission having a change-speed gear-box 11 drives the other, an internal combustion engine 10 driving both transmissions, the pump 14 being adjustable step-wise by a lever 32 with changes in the change-speed gear 11. The positions of lever 32 corresponding to the ratios of gear are defined by recesses I to V (four forward ratios and one reverse) engageable by a catch. During gear changing a clutch pedal 25 is depressed to release a clutch in the mechanical drive and open a by-pass valve 22 in the hydrostatic transmission. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 the set positions I to V of the lever 32 are adjustable by a bolt 33 but there may instead be automatic adjustment by a piston and cylinder device acting on the bottom of the lever against a spring (Fig. 1a, not shown) in response to the pressure in the hydrostatic transmission. In a further embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) an electronic control unit (55) receives measurements of engine torque (from an injector control rod) pump displacement, hydrostatic transmission pressure and also receives a signal indicating the selected gear ratio. The pump displacement is adjusted by this control in response to a desired value of the ratio of the peripheral force at the front wheels (driven by the hydrostatic transmission) to the total peripheral force at the wheels, which value is supplied to the control by the operator. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 the mechanical transmission may be put in neutral and the vehicle driven hydraulically with the lever 32 used to vary the pump 14 continuously. A device may be provided to prevent the bypass valve 22 being closed by release of pedal 25 unless both transmissions have been adjusted. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, the electrical controller may also control transmission ratio in response to the pressure in an hydraulic brake.
