Abstract

1483816 Filler composition; dental cements LEE PHARMACEUTICALS 27 Sept 1974 [28 Sept 1973] 42176/74 Heading C3P An X-ray opaque filler composition for synthetic resin compositions comprises 5-35% by weight of the filler of X-ray opaque particulate barium glass having a refractive index of 1À7- 2-0 and 95-65% by weight of the filler of an X-ray transparent particulate filler material having a refractive index within the range known for synthetic resins. The filler material may be silica, quartz, glass, e,g. borosilicate glass, or micro fibrous refractory salts. The particle size of the filler composition may be 0À5-50 microns with the average particle size being 2-15 microns. A suitable refractive index for the filler material is 1À4 to 1À6. The filler composition may constitute 90-40% by weight of a composition useful as a dental restorative composition comprising in addition a polymerizable monomer. The polymerizable monomer may be a mixture of the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A dimethacrylate and triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate, which is polymerized with the aid of a catalyst comprising benzoyl peroxide and N,N-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)toluidine and specific filler compositions in the examples comprise barium glass and one of borosilicate glass, amorphous silica and quartz.
