Abstract

148,314. Huth Ges., Dr. E. F. March 30, 1918, [Convention date]. High vacua in lamp bulbs, obtaining and maintaining.-During exhaustion of a vacuum tube, small quantities of gas or vapour, such as ether or other volatile hydrocarbon, are admitted to the tube, the filament being heated, as the exhaustion proceeds. It is stated that by this means the current between the filament and the anode is largely increased both before and after the exhaustion has been completed, thereby facilitating electron bombardment of the anode, and providing a larger current during normal working.
